Sporting a new kit, Sutton High U16s Eagles return to winning ways at Dorking Wanderers

A much improved performance saw Sutton High Youth return to winning ways away at Dorking Wanderers. After the setback at home to Corinthian Casuals the week before, it was important for the young High team to find a response – and they didn’t disappoint with a battling display that saw some real moments of quality.
A fast start saw the visitors take the lead early on when Charlie Ball’s pin point cross found Adam Wegiel at the far post and he smashed home a sweet volley.
The hosts – who had some impressive talent at either end of the pitch – were gifted a way back into the contest shortly after. Josh Arulappu took a touch too many from a firm backpass from Tosin Ewola, and the Wanderers striker robbed the young keeper of the ball to bundle home.
An even game ebbed and flowed for the remainder of the half, but it was us who grabbed back the initiative with time running down on the clock. A lovely passing move finished, with the over lapping Alfie Arnott’s cross finding Adam in the box, and the strike turned sharply to roll home a left foot finish.
Dorking fought hard after the break to try and find an equalizer but it was the visitors who looked the more threatening. Mamadu Embalo spurned a fantastic chance when racing through one on one only to be denied by the hosts keeper.
The miss didn’t prove costly, however, as Sutton eventually found their third. A clever quick throw in from Joseph Jones found George Davis running into the box and his exquisite first touch lay-off with the outside of the boot was pounced on by Charlie who fired low and hard into the net. It was a superb goal and sealed a deserved victory for Sutton.
With the league looking wide open this year, Youth now need to try and find some consistency to ensure they are competing at the right end of the division come the latter stages of the season.
